We are proud to announce that BRTeam is among the sponsors of the prestigious ETEC 2015; probably the most significant national event in the field of energy.

The Fourth Edition ofEmerging Trends in Energy Conservation – ETEC 2015 international conference will be held in Tehran University, on 18th and 19th of February 2015 in association with many universities, private companies ,and government agencies of the region.

The main objectives of this conference is to introduce estate of the art in energy engineering and conservation in certain fields such as:

  • Oil,Gas & Petrochemicals
  • Power Utilities
  • Construction and Building materials
  • Heavy industries (Steel,Cement,Others)
  • Car manufacturing

The conference also highlights the growing need for alternative energies in particular biomass-derived energy carriers i.e. second generation biofuels.

The organizers hope to assist prominent industry managers, high level government policy makers and specialized academics to come together and update their knowledge and understanding regarding energy conservation issues.

All BRTeam members are cordially invited to visit BRTeam`s booth during the event. BRTeam`s Bio/reactor Group in collaboration with BRTeam`s Engineering Unit and BRTeam`s SGP/GEF/UNDP-sponsored extension branch; Extension Group of Environmentalists (EGE) will be actively present at the venue of the conference.

BiodieselAnalyzer©: Your Biodiesel Analyses Just A Few Clicks Away!

The procedures  used  to experimentally  determine  the  quality  parameters  of  biodiesel  are  lengthy  and  expensive. In some cases, performing some required tests are impossible for an insufficient amount of oil is available. This is especially true in case of algal biodiesel.

Here we report on a software package, BiodieselAnalyzer© Ver. 1.1 and 1.2, capable of bioprospecting 16 different quality properties of a prospective biodiesel by fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) profiling. More specifically, the only data required to perform the analyses are the FAME profile of the oil feedstock used in making biodiesel. Both the Online and Offline versions of the BiodieselAnalyzer© are intended for the Windows platform and are publically available at http://www.brteam.ir/biodieselanalyzer.

The different biodiesel properties one will be able to investigate using BiodieselAnalyzer© include Unsaturation Level (including Saturated and Unsaturated Fatty Acids, Degree of Unsaturation), Cetan Number, Cold Flow Properties (including Cloud Point, Pour Point and Cold Filter Plugging Point), Oxidation Stability (including Allylic and Bis-Allylic Position Equivalents and Oxidation Stability), Higher Heating Value, Kinematic Viscosity and Density.

BiodieselAnalyzer© was first introduced in Biofuel Research Journal:

Talebi, Ahmad Farhad, Meisam Tabatabaei, and Yusuf Chisti. "BiodieselAnalyzer©: a user-friendly software for predicting the properties of prospective biodiesel" Biofuel Research Journal 1.2 (2014): 55-57.

And has been used by scholars from all around the world. Here are just examples of scholarly works in which BiodieselAnalyzer© Ver. 1 has been used to perform Biodiesel analyses:

1-      Carvalho, Ana KF, et al. "Biosynthesis, characterization and enzymatic transesterification of single cell oil of Mucor circinelloides–A sustainable pathway for biofuel production" Bioresource Technology (2015). doi:10.1016/j.biortech.2014.12.110

BiodieselAnalyzer© Version 1.1 (Offline App) (released on January 13, 2014)

BiodieselAnalyzer© Version 1.1 (Offline App) consists of a series of pages describing your biodiesel properties. You can enter the GC data (percentage of existing fatty acids in an oil sample), navigating to each page by clicking the tabs located across the top of BiodieselAnalyzer main screen.

"Download Offline Application here"

(Pleasure ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework 4 is already installed on your computer)

BiodieselAnalyzer© Version 1.2 (Online App) (released on January 12, 2015)

The online version consists of a spreadsheet where one can key in the GC data (fatty acids profile (%) of an oil sample). The online version is available on http://www.brteam.ir/analysis/acme/ and it is compatible with Mozilla FireFox or Google Chrome only.

The online version of  the BiodieselAnalyzer© is very user-friendly. One can simply cut/copy data from other programs for example Word and Excel and paste them into the BiodieselAnalyzer spreadsheet. Then, click on the 'ANALYZE MY DATA' tab and you will be navigated to the results page where different biodiesel properties have been predicted.

Upon the request of the Department of Environment of the Qeshm Free Zone to purchase one unit of BD-Expert © Biodiesel Processor (capable of producing biodiesel from waste cooking oil (WCO)) from the Extension Group of Environmentalists (EGE) within the framework of a SGP/GEF/UNDP sponsored project (IRA/SGP/OP5/Y2/STAR/CC/12/04(170)), a ceremony was held on 27 and 28 December 2014 on the Qeshm Island to deliver the unit and train the parties involved. High-ranking officials of the Island including the President of the Department of the Environment; Eng. Dakhteh, the General Manager of the Industries, Mining and Trade Office; Dr. Majidi, the Head of Qeshm Free Zone’s Incubator; Mrs. Hosseini and the National Coordinator of SGP/GEF/UNDP; Eng. Daraei as well as a member of SGP Steering Committee; Eng. Farahani participated in the event.

The program included series of lectures and a hands-on training workshop handled by BRTeam Leader; Dr. Tabatabaei, BRTeam Internal Affairs Manager; Ms. Saberi and BRTeam`s Bio/Reactor Group Leader; Dr. Zonouzi. During the 2 day event, the participants were exposed to comprehensive information on the illegal applications of WCO, the harmful consequences of its recycling into the food and hygiene industries and the production of biodiesel (as a clean fuel) from WCO. While the participants were briefed about the environmental benefits of partial substitution of petroleum-diesel by WCO-Biodiesel, they were also trained in the practical sessions on how to convert WCO into Biodiesel using the patented BD-Expert reactor. BD-Expert © is a patented technology for biodiesel production from WCO in collaboration with SGP/GEF/UNDP.

Download BD-Expert © Brochure here!

The workshop was attended by the members of the island’s fast food, restaurant and confectionery unities including the presidents of the respective unities. The event was fully covered by the media and the related coverage was broadcast on the Khalikh Fars Channel on 29 December 2014 (at 16:45, 20:00 and 23:00, Tehran’s time).

The event was also widely publicized in the internet by the media.

Access the coverage here!

In the aftermath of the event, the reactor was transferred by the Department of Environment of the Qeshm Free Zone to a village named “SALAKH” where the WCO produced during a wedding ceremony was converted into WCO-Biodiesel by the villagers trained by the personnel of the Department of Environment. The WCO-Biodiesel generated was then fueled into a diesel vehicle owned by the indigenous people.
