The Editorial of the current Issue (Issue 9, 1st March 2016) entitled “A close look at the developments and impact of biofuels in transport and environment; what are the next steps?” (DOI: 10.18331/BRJ2016.3.1.2) has been authored by BRJ`s Editorial Board Member; Professor Solange I. Mussatto (Delf University of Technology, The Netherlands).

Professor Solange I. Mussatto’s research at Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) on the development of biorefinery strategies for total and sustainable conversion of biomass (lignocellulosic materials, macroalgae, and plants) into biobased products is internationally recognized. Dr. Mussatto’s scientific interests include: i) use of chemical, physico-chemical and biological methods for biomass pretreatment and hydrolysis; ii) biomass conversion by fermentation or chemical routes into compounds of interest including fuels, chemicals, bioactive compounds, materials and enzymes; and iii) techno-economic evaluation of the processes for the development of a competitive and sustainable biobased economy.

Dr. Mussatto is an outstanding young scientist with more than 120 full papers published in high quality peer-reviewed journals, 1 book, 13 book chapters, 3 patents, and more than 230 papers in scientific conferences. Her published works have received more than 4700 citations. Dr. Mussatto holds an h-index of 36 (as of 1 March 2016; Source, Google Scholar).

The Editorial of the current Issue (Issue 8, 1st December 2015) entitled “Lignin as a value-added byproduct to improve the economics of bioethanol?” (DOI: 10.18331/BRJ2015.2.4.2) has been authored by BRJ`s Editorial Board Member; Professor Martin A. Hubbe (North Carolina State University, USA).

Professor Martin A. Hubbe`s research on Lignocellulosic colloidal chemistry is internationally recognized. He is a Buckman Distinguished Scientist and has consulted with around 25 related industries in the field. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the online peer-reviewed journal BioResources, devoted to the science of lignocellulosic materials, chemicals, and applications.

As a senior in the field of pulp and paper with over 30 years of experience, Professor Martin A. Hubbe has challenged the concept based on which lignin is considered as a value-added byproduct to improve the economics of ethanol production from lignocelluloses. This must-read Editorial scrutinizes the various applications of lignin and addresses the different view points circulating around during the last decade.

The new issue also includes a comprehensive review article as well as quality original research articles.

All articles published in the journal are freely available and are published completely free-of-charge.

The 7th Issue of Biofuel Research Journal will be released soon!

With a unique publication policy of Completely Free-of-Charge and Open Access at No-Charge, Biofuel Research Journal is now indexed by Thomson Reuters Web of ScienceEmerging Sources Citation Index, CrossRef, DOAJ, CAS Databases (A division of the American Chemical Society; also known as Chemical Abstracts).

The Editorial of the forthcoming Issue (Issue 7, 1st Sept. 2015) entitled “The status of biofuels...” (DOI: 10.18331/BRJ2015.2.3.2) has been authored by BRJ`s International Advisory Board Member; Professor Yusuf Chisti (Massey University, New Zealand).

Professor Yusuf Chisti  is a Chartered Engineer, CEng, and Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (FIChemE), UK. His research focuses on sustainable production of chemicals, materials, and fuels through biotechnology. He sits on editorial boards of the following publications: Biofuels, Bioproducts & Biorefining; Biotechnology AdvancesJournal of BiotechnologyAdvanced Natural ProductsJournal of Applied PhycologyBiofuelsEnvironmental Engineering and Management; and Biofuel Research Journal. In 2006, Professor Chisti received a Doctor Honoris Causa degree from Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi, Romania, in recognition of his many contributions to chemical and biological engineering. In 2014, Canada’s University of Waterloo awarded him its Engineering Alumni Achievement medal in the Academic Excellence category. Professor Chisti has produced nearly 300 publications including a highly cited book (Airlift Bioreactors, Elsevier, 1989). Moreover, his legendary publications in the field of biofuels have paved the way for the understanding of algal fuels and continue to do so. Among those are the following review papers which have been collectively cited a staggering over 6000 times within just less than a decade:

- Chisti, Y.(2007). Biodiesel from microalgaeBiotechnology Advances,25(3), 294-306. (Cited: 5024; as of 30 August 2015)

- Chisti, Y. (2008). Biodiesel from microalgae beats bioethanolTrends in Biotechnology26(3), 126-131. (Cited: 1210; as of 30 August 2015)

Professor Chisti’s role in the development of Biofuel Research Journal has been indispensable. Through his constant support and that of the rest of its International Advisory Board, BRJ has rapidly achieved an international recognition and the 45 papers published in the past 6 issues, have been downloaded a staggering 45,000 times. In June 2015, Biofuel Research Journal was indexed in the New Edition of Thomson Reuters Web of Science, namely Emerging Sources Citation IndexESCI includes influential journals and will be launched in November 2015.

We look forward to welcoming you as an author.
