Call-for-Papers

Short Biographies of the Editors:

Dr. Meisam Tabatabaei received his PhD in Environmental Biotechnology from University Putra Malaysia (UPM). He is currently working as a senior researcher and assistant professor at ABRII and leads the Biofuel Research Team (BRTeam) and Nanosystems Research Team (NRTeam). He is also an adjunct professor of Lebanese University and Tehran University. Dr. Tabatabaei`s broad research focus is biofuels production from waste resources as well as nanosystems fabrication for a wide range of applications. He has co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, 4 book chapters and has achieved more than 10 patents. Other than being a regular reviewer for more than 30 international journals including Biotechnology Advances, Bioresource Technology, Journal of Membrane Science, Biosensors and Bioelectronics and others, he is currently serving as the editor-in-chief for the Biofuel Research Journal. Dr. Tabatabaei has been working closely with United Nation Development Program (SGP/GEF/UNDP) in his capacity as the founding coordinator of BRTeam’s extension branch; Extension Group of Environmentalists (EGE), for the promotion of waste-oriented biofuels in the developing world.

Dr. Keikhosro Karimi started his Ph.D on ethanol from lignocelluloses on 2000 in Chemical Engineering Department, Isfahan University of Technology (IUT), continued as an exchange student in Chemical Reaction Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, and received his PhD in 2005 from IUT. Then, he continued his research on biofuel from wastes as a post doc at University of Borås. Currently, he has a position as a senior researcher and assistant professor in Chemical Engineering Department, IUT. He is also the director of Industrial Biotechnology Group, Institute for Biotechnology, IUT and director of Advanced Chemical Engineering Program, Chemical Engineering Department, IUT. His research activates are focused on biofuels from waste lignocelluloses, particularly bioethanol and biogas. He has contributed in publication of more than 60 peer-reviewed journal papers, three book chapters, and more than 100 conference papers. Furthermore, he has about 8 years of part-time industrial experiences in biological-related industries and has been involved in design, supervision, and start-up of an ethanol plant in Iran. He was also the manager of 11 research projects in the field of biofuels. Currently, he is supervising 9 Ph.D students and 12 M.Sc students in the field of biofuels. Dr. Karimi is a reviewer for several international journals, editorial board member of Lignocellulose Journal, and editor-in-chief of Journal of Biomass to Biofuel. Prior to UCR, Dr. Kumar served as a Director and Scientist at Zymetis, Inc., College Park, Maryland for almost two years. Dr. Kumar’s broad research focus is conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to biofuels and chemicals via biochemical and chemocatalytic routes. He has co-authored more than 25 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Other than being a regular reviewer for several international journals including Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Bioresource Technology, PNAS, and others, he is currently serving as an associate editor for the Journal of Biomass to Biofuel and is the editorial board member of Biotechnology for Biofuels and Ethanol. Dr. Kumar has been honored with Outstanding Reviewer award in 2010 and 2011 for his contribution to Bioresource Technology journal, Elsevier Ltd., Oxford, UK.

Dr. Ilona Sárvári Horváth received her PhD in Bioscience with specialization in Chemical Reaction Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. She has worked at the University of Borås, Sweden since 2006 and currently has a position as senior lecturer and an academic degree as Associate professor. Her research was previously focused on identifying and solving problems caused by the presence of inhibiting compounds during the fermentation step in a lignocelluloses - to - ethanol process. The aim of her recent research at the University of Borås is to design effective technologies for the utilization of the organic fraction of different wastes streams for bio-energy and bio-fuel production. She has co-authored more than 20 peer-reviewed journal articles connected to these fields.
